Since 2009, the nonprofit organization Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) has dedicated itself to fighting back against the heinous crimes of human trafficking and exploitation. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, many thousands of American children are lured into prostitution as sex slaves every year. Although human trafficking is illegal, it is estimated that there are victims of it all across our nation. As the constant travelers of the U.S. highway system, members of the trucking and transportation industry have come together to help stop this vile activity.
Thanks to the efforts of TAT, an industry-specific training DVD has been made available for the orientation process of member workers on the front lines. This includes drivers employed with major transportation carriers, students of truck driving schools, and employees of truck stops and travel plazas.
Furthermore, a 24-hour hotline endorsed by TAT facilitates the reporting of any suspicious activity or signs of possible abuse. Through awareness and education, TAT can help law enforcement bring the perpetrators to justice and put an end to this inhuman practice.
